Being a brand new parent is hard work. Sleeping becomes a priceless commodity, daily tasks are no longer looked after and a whole bunch of other things that nobody tells you about. You’ll probably find yourself having to schedule in time for things that typically just happened — eating, for example. Needless to say, mailing out a set of cards to introduce your newest family member — aka the star of your show — takes a back seat to things like showering. The general rule is that thank-you notes for shower gifts should be mailed within two or three weeks, and early wedding gifts should be acknowledged before the wedding day. After the wedding, thank-you notes should be sent within three months. It’s important to stay on top of these not only because it’s polite, but who would want that to pile up?!
